Safety Policy.

This Safety Policy explains how Ember works to keep members safe: what we prohibit, how we verify members, how to report someone, what happens after a report, and where to get help. It applies to every Ember member. It is also our safety policy under Colorado law (C.R.S. § 6-1-731.5), so members in Colorado will find all of the required information, including Colorado resources, on this page.

1. Prohibited content and conduct

You may not use Ember to commit, threaten, or attempt misconduct that threatens public or personal safety. That includes homicide, unlawful sexual behavior, assault, kidnapping, stalking, harassment, involuntary intoxication, robbery, theft, and any other conduct that threatens public safety or another person's safety. This applies to what you do on Ember and to how you treat people you meet through Ember.

We also prohibit:

2. Criminal background screening

Ember does not conduct criminal background screenings of members. Because we do not screen, we do not exclude members on the basis of criminal convictions. We do remove any member when we confirm a report that they have committed misconduct that threatens public or personal safety.

3. Identity and age verification

Every member must pass a government ID check and a liveness check, a live selfie matched to the ID, before their profile can be seen by anyone on Ember. The ID check also confirms that the member is at least 18. Profiles that have not passed verification never appear in discovery or on the map.

4. Suspensions and bans

We review every report. When a report describes misconduct that threatens public or personal safety, we may suspend the reported member's profile immediately while we review it, so they cannot be seen or contact anyone. If we confirm a violation of this policy, we remove the member. Bans on Ember are permanent.

Serious violations, including any misconduct that threatens public or personal safety, scams and fraud, and anything involving a minor, result in a permanent ban without warning. For less serious issues, we may remove content or issue a warning first.

5. Appeals

A member who has been suspended or banned can appeal by emailing support@emberdatingapp.org within 30 days of the action. Include the email address on your account and explain why you believe the decision was wrong. We review every appeal and reply by email. The appeal decision is final.

6. Notices to other members

When we ban a member for misconduct that threatens public or personal safety, for scams or fraud, or for impersonation, we notify the members they matched with that we received a report about that member and removed them. We send the notice by email. It never identifies the person who made the report.

7. How to report

You can report a member from their profile or from any conversation using the report option, which also lets you block them. You can also email support@emberdatingapp.org. Tell us what happened and when, and include screenshots if you have them. If you are in immediate danger, call 911 first, then report to us.

Please report honestly. Do not submit false reports, or report someone for malicious, biased, or other illegitimate reasons. False or malicious reports violate this policy and may lead to action against the reporting account.

8. Consent

Engaging in sexual conduct with another person without their consent violates this Safety Policy, is against the law, and may result in criminal or civil liability.

9. Resources for members in Colorado

Members outside Colorado can call their local emergency number, and in the United States can call or text 988 for crisis support.
